KataFoody

Overview

KataFoody is a WeChat-based online mini-program with a mission to reduce food waste, allowing users to browse unsold food from nearby bakeries.

The purpose of this app is to provide a platform for vendors to sell their surplus food at a discounted price to customers, reducing food waste and benefiting both parties.

It all starts with Julia

My friend Julia was very surprised to see the people who worked at the bakery throw very delicate bread after work.

When asked, the staff said that most of them needed to be thrown away if they couldn't be sold because of the company's policy.

What Julia does & thinks

Can we
do something?

Can we do something?

Can we do something?

We know that there is a lot of unnecessary food waste
from the seller to the consumer.
But how should we solve it?

Interview with employees

Based on my survey results from 13 employees, it was revealed that the employees have a strong stance against food waste.

They express a sense of moral obligation to minimize waste, perceiving it as an unethical and irresponsible practice.

How many counterparts are involved originally

By comparing and contrasting several counterparts, I was able to identify the gaps in the bakeries

and customers, where excess bread is produced due to the bakeries' inability to accurately forecast customer demand.

If the bread isn't sold the same day, it's squandered because it wouldn't have sold well the next day;

Why don't we try to sell it on the same day?

How to fill this gap between bakeries and customers?

What if

we ate

What if

we repurpose

the food?

What if we

sold the problem

at a discount?

What if we

turned the issue

into a business?

Ideation

In order to achieve the goal of reducing food waste while benefiting both parties, I mainly focused on the following features when thinking about the design of the interface.
